The blue light emitted by these devices disrupts our sleep patterns, leaving us groggy and irritable, while the dopamine rush from notifications keeps us hooked, making it challenging to disconnect. Research has linked excessive screen time to a host of issues, including anxiety, depression, and poor sleep quality. I know it’s a tough choice to make, but it’s worth it!

Here are a few strategies to help you unplug and reclaim your time:

  • When spending time outdoors or engaging in hobbies, keep your cell phone’s internet off to minimize distractions.
  • Opt for a walk in the park, connect face-to-face with loved ones, or indulge in activities you enjoy, limiting cell phone use to emergencies only.
  • While working on your computer, resist the urge to reach for your cell phone during breaks. Instead, step outside, stretch, or engage in a quick workout to rejuvenate your mind. Fresh air and a change of scenery can work wonders.

Embrace the ancient practice of dry brushing to promote skin detoxification. Utilizing a brush with stiff bristles, gently massage and exfoliate the skin before showering. Begin brushing from your feet and work your way towards your heart, ensuring gentle pressure to avoid skin irritation.

Dry brushing effectively removes dead skin cells, stimulates blood circulation, and facilitates detoxification through the skin, leaving you with a refreshed and rejuvenated complexion.

  • Forest Bathing –

It is a Japanese holistic ritual known as shinrin-yoku. In simple words, forest bathing means spending time in the forest. Whenever you need a break, take a leisurely stroll in the forest while observing all the shapes and colours, listening to even the stillness, feeling the texture of leaves and bark and inhaling the earthy aroma of the forest. Have you heard of Epsom salt? Rich in magnesium sulphate, Epsom salt is renowned for its muscle-relaxing and detoxifying properties. Dissolving Epsom salt in warm water not only eases tired muscles but also aids in detoxification, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized.

Now that you’ve decluttered your physical space, it’s time also to declutter your mind; what say? Dedicate a few minutes each day, preferably before bedtime, to jot down your thoughts. Not only does this practice help you self-reflect and sort through your thoughts and emotions, but it also promotes clarity and mental well-being.

Additionally, consider incorporating gratitude into your journaling routine by acknowledging and writing the blessings, both significant and small, that enrich your life.

  • Oil Pulling –

When someone asks me how to detox my body and mind, I often recommend oil pulling. It is an ancient practice known as “Gandusha” in Ayurveda, oil pulling has gained recognition for its oral health benefits and detoxifying properties. While various oils can be used, opting for organic, cold-pressed coconut oil ensures purity and quality. It’s best to practice oil pulling on an empty stomach, ideally before brushing your teeth.

Simply take about a tablespoon of oil into your mouth and swish it around as if you were rinsing with mouthwash for 15 to 20 minutes. It’s crucial not to gargle or swallow the oil during the process, as it will be filled with bacteria and toxins. Once the recommended time has elapsed, spit the oil into a trash can or disposable cup to prevent sink clogging. Thoroughly rinse your mouth with water afterwards to eliminate any remaining oil and toxins.

Detoxification isn’t a quick fix that works after just a couple of tries. It’s about committing to small daily steps to improve yourself, both internally and externally.
